Week 7

I went to Augusta this week for the Cony/Medomak Valley game and took my son Rhys to his first-ever football game.

I'd never been to Cony for a football game before and the atmosphere was fantastic. Plus, it was Youth Night and Youth Night is always a good time.

However, making this video was Rhys' favorite part.

Rhys' pick could not have gotten off to a worse start. Medomak's Jaydiin Ruiz picked off Parker Morin on the 3rd play of the game, then again on the next possession, and after Cony fumbled the kickoff, it was 14-0 and the Rams had the kind of nightmare start that causes coaches to drink.

Cony rallied, tying the game at 14, but Medomak put their foot down behind Ruiz, who rushed for nearly 200 yards and two touchdowns.

C North is now a 3-way tie at 4-2, with Hermon hosting Oceanside this week in a battle for the 1 seed (probably).

Ruiz, for his part, was named one of MaineHighSchoolFootball.com's Super 6 of week, a weekly award highlighting top players around the state.

I keep forgetting to put this in the newsletter each week. If you aren't already using this site for all your high school football needs, you really should be.

The win (along with Hampden's win over Oceanside) vaulted Medomak into the top 10 in the Power Rankings.

They moved up 14 spots, which I explain in the open of this week's podcast, where I run through the updated Top 10.

Then, Rob Kennedy of WHOU joined me to overreact to week 6. We go over a bunch of games and teams that caught our eyes. Plus, we talk about basketball, including Rob's call of the Maine Event last winter, and a whole lot of other things. This was a great conversation, despite how bored I look in the screenshot.

While watching Drake Maye restore hope to New England, I updated the missing games for soccer and field hockey, so Heal Points should be in pretty good shape. But, there's always a chance I'm missing a game (or the score is reported wrong), so let me know if anything is amiss.

Also! I added a twist to the Heal Points where it's calculating what the Crabtree might be for soccer--and also calculates the Heal Points for football.

That's just the kind of nerd I am.

I'm not sure why they haven't just pulled the plug on the entire season yet. Does anyone think they're going to play Oak Hill next week? Are they going to wait until next Thursday to call it?

I'd been holding out hope that he'd come back to Boston, but it looks like Aron Baynes is hanging it up for good.

Baynes was one of my favorite recent Celtics.
