Week 3

So that Patriots game...yikes.

At least the under hit.

And it might be Drake Maye time?

Last week's Game of the Day was near my house, so I decided to check it out. The Model had Foxcroft Academy slightly favored over Oceanside, but when Zeb Foster went nearly 70 yards on Oceanside's first play and then the Mariners added another big run to go up 14-0 on the next drive, there were a lot of raised eyebrows on the sideline.

Foxcroft didn't quit.

They answered and then late in the second half, they got this TD pass to tie the game.

But they weren't done. Foxcroft scored the final 30 points to win in convincing fashion, 30-14. Foxcroft is GOOD.

The breaking point in the game was when Oceanside stuffed Foxcroft on 4th and goal on the 1 yard line--Momentum!--and then Foxcroft got a safety on 1st down. Momentum gone.

Football rankings are updated.

There's some wonkiness inherent in the Model after 2 weeks. Two games isn't a lot to go on, so the rankings can move quite a bit based on very little, especially since teams are clustered very close together. A late game touchdown can move you several spots. Another week of games will bring more clarity, but for now there's weird stuff where Leavitt has fallen after their loss to Winthrop and blowout win over a Brunswick team that isn't worth anything in the rankings. It's hard to tell how much weight last season should have in an 8 game season.

Anyway...

Rankings start with a fraction of last season’s final rankings.

This week on the podcast, Jarod Richmond (of WHOU and Spruce Mountain and everything else) joined me to overreact to the games of week 2.

It's a great conversation. Jarod has insight on a ton of teams, as you'd expect. Plus, we get into basketball (obviously) and dig into the B South Girls tourney for this coming winter.

Check it out!

Week 2 Overreactions with Jarod Richmond
Week 2 is in the books so it’s time to overreact to what we’ve seen so far. I’m joined this year by one of the hardest working guys in Maine, Jarod Richmond. On

Heal Points are updated in the formatting you've come to prefer to the MPA's version.

These are wildly superior to the MPA's version of Heal Points.

Upgrade to get those same Heal Points.

Falmouth's legendary coach added a new trophy to the case.

Cooper was balling in Rucker Park while Ace took his official visit to UMaine.

That's it!

The Model's predictions for today's games are after the jump.
