The AA Round-Up: December 21st, 2023
Another trip through AA.
In the Game of the Day, Cheverus used a 15-0 first half run to boost themselves over the Portland Bulldogs, 49-45.
Leo McNabb and Jameson Fitzpatrick led the Stags with 14 and 10 points as Cheverus picked up a valuable early season win for AA North heal points.
Jeissy Khamis was a force down low, he posed a size advantage over Cheverus' relatively small starting five giving him an opportunity to pour in 19 points for the Bulldogs.
With the win, Cheverus grows a considerable heal point lead over Windham for first place.
Makai Bougie and Brady Adams' 20+ point performance's helped Sanford stave off Noble, 88-75.
The Knights got a significant boost from Jamier Rose's FORTY FIVE point effort.
This week is Noble's "AA Week", as they beat Lewiston Tuesday, Lost to Sanford last night, and welcome Bonny Eagle Saturday afternoon. If they go 2-1 this week and the only loss comes in a game where Rose had 45, the Knights have to be happy.
Both teams move onto 3-2.
Gorham traveled to Class A Falmouth for their first game since their win last Tuesday over Greely 9 days ago. They ran out to a 10-2 lead with five minutes left in the first and never relinquished their lead, coming out with a 73-56 win.
Ashton Leclerc was on fire, 23 of his 35 total points were scored in the first half. He was getting it done inside, outside, and boasted an impressive mid range game off the dribble.
Gorham's 6'0" tall senior guard Gabe Michaud defended Falmouth's 6'8" big man, Chris Simonds. Simonds finished the game with 19 points, but for a team without a player over 6'4" on the court Gorham did a fairly good job defending one of the states' best bigs.
The Cheverus girls rolled past rival Portland at home, 72-35 behind Maddie Fitzpatrick's 29 points and 15 rebounds. That's her second double-double in as many nights.
The Windham girls won their first game of the year over Bonny Eagle, 69-34.
Mallory Muse dropped in 18, while three other Eagles saw double figures.
Saturday holds the final games before the Christmas break, including a few Boys' cross division matchups. Edward Little at Gorham, Lewiston at Scarborough, and Cheverus at Deering should be interesting North/South clashes.
For the girls, Noble visits Thornton Academy only 10 days after the Trojans put up 107 in North Berwick.
