The 2-time champs drop to 0-4
The South Portland boys, your 2-time defending state champs, fell to 0-4 on the season with a 46-39 loss to Portland. Jeissey Khamis had 21 & 11 in the win for the Bulldogs.
It begs the obvious question: when is the last time a defending champ started 0-4? I can't think of any, but if you can, add it to the comments.
For the Dexter girls, Mazie Peach had a triple-double (15/16r/10b) and Hannah Dean had a double-double (10/11r) in their 39-34 win over fellow unbeaten Penobscot Valley.
It's a big win for Dexter that moves them up all the way to...6th in C North?
C North is usually very deep and this year seems to be no exception.
If you're a Dexter fan, you're encouraged by the fact that the Tigers are the 5th of 6 teams currently in the top 20. I'd expect that number to go down for a number of reasons.
But C North has a habit of going into the tournament without a statistical favorite and with that many play-in games, chaos reigns. Let's hope that happens again this year.
In the on-going battle of the MPA vs the vendor they paid to do their Heal Points, may I present the Dirigo boys?
They're 1-0 in the MPA's standings, but...
They're actually 2-0 and the second win just doesn't count for...reasons.
But also:
They're actually 3-0. They're also not in 12th place. They're in 5th. Big difference!
Will the MPA get it right eventually? Sure. Do you want to spend hours of your life waiting? I'm guessing no.
Elsewhere, on a light evening...
The Ellsworth boys pulled away from Caribou late in the Game of the Day...Grace Jaffery had 33 as Ellsworth moved to 3-0 with a win over Caribou...Freshman Nora Curtis' putback was the game-winner in Presque Isle's 44-43 win over MDI...Lilly Wernget drilled 6 3's for the Fort Kent girls...
Fort Kent's Ethan Daigle is your latest 1,000 point scorer, getting there in last night's win over Wisdom.
I added game times to the Scoreboard.
Keep in mind these are the game times that were announced at the start of the season. If I get changes, I'll make them. But, you know.
Lot of day games today. I don't know about you, but I'm probably going to fit a game into my Christmas shopping. Don't tell my wife.
I have a couple more tweaks coming to the scoreboard.
I don't cover wrestling, but this is a pretty great story from the wrestling world. An Ellsworth wrestler saved his opponent's life at a meet.
We're still in B North, where Old Town and Foxcroft are currently fighting for the 4 seed.
Based on early returns, it looks like the top 2 seeds are a long shot and the newcomer Maranacook is sitting in the 3 seed. That might leave a battle for the 4 seed and the bye to Bangor.
Old Town has played the easier schedule, with their only competitive game coming against Caribou, a game they won.
Foxcroft is 3-1. They have an expected loss to Ellsworth and a decent win against Washington Academy.
The rest of today's games are after the jump.
