Regional Finals, Part 2

by Maine Basketball Rankings

It isn’t often that a 2-time defending State Champion is an underdog, but these are strange times. Maybe we’re in the Upside Down. Either way, Gorham is back as the 5 seed. They stunned South Portland in the semis with a 16-0 1st quarter. That win vaulted them up to 7th in the Power Rankings, which means they’re all of a sudden the 2nd most likely team to win it all. That honor belongs to Oxford Hills, which is 5th in the Power Rankings. They’ll play Edward Little today.
Over in A North, defending champs Messalonskee are in a Regional Final after being left for dead early in the season. They’ll face a Hampden team that beat them by 38 on Opening Night. Hampden, for their part, is attempting to win their first-ever Gold Ball. They held a very good shooting team in Lawrence to 20.8% from the field in a game most people expected to be a lot closer than it was.
