Regional Finals, Part 1

by Maine Basketball Rankings

It’s Friday, which means it’s time to hand out some hardware.
South Portland looks for their third Regional Crown in a row when they face Scarborough. The winner has to be pretty happy that Portland won’t await them on the other side, but they’ll still get a top-10 team in either Windham or Edward Little. The model thinks it’s pretty much up for grabs, with the highest seed remaining having the worst odds of winning the whole thing. Because, sure.
A North will have 2 perennial powers facing off, only not in the way anyone expected. Hampden is the 1 seed, for seemingly the 15th year in a row. They’ve more or less coasted so far, although it’s almost impossible to coast against Cony. Medomak Valley is the 6 seed, and was supposed to be rebuilding, only no one told them. They’ve out-scored their opponents 45-6 in the 4th quarter and held them to 9% shooting. That’s probably not sustainable, but you never know. And that’s why the tournament is amazing.
