Post-Christmas Ball
We're back at it
Hopefully everyone had a nice Christmas break and Santa left your team some wins under the tree.
Let's do a quick recap from the handful of games on the 23rd that feel like they happened weeks ago.
In the Game of the Day, Sanford led by 5 after the first quarter and slowly expanded that lead, pushing it to double-digits in the second quarter and ultimately beating Oxford Hills by 24. Dylan Gendron led the way with 30 points on 6 3's.
Elsewhere:
Ryan Bourgoin had 20 & 8 in Forest Hills' win over Valley...Fort Kent's Aden Jeffers dropped 39 on Wisdom...Lily Oliver juuuust missed a triple-double in the girls' game with 36 points, 14 rebounds, and 9 steals...Reece MacDonald's 23 points helped York survive a scare from GNG, who got 28 from John Patenaude and 21 from Colby Mitchell...Morgan Petrucci had 12 and 19 for Forest Hills...Ella Pelletier went for 23 in Oxford Hills' win over Sanford...Lilly Bellrose's 20 led Spruce to a blowout of Boothbay...Valley's Liana Hartwell registered a triple-double against Piscataquis with 14 points, 12 boards, and 11 assists.
Here's a nice dunk from Sumner's Logan Crowley.
Kennebunk's Theo Pow is taking his talents to Colby.
Last week(?) I posted about how Houlton was suddenly looking for a new coach mid-season. Well they found one.
Ok, I've got to get to a game at Mount Abram.
The Washington Post has a cool article about Ace Flagg.
The Wisdom girls gave me my first loss in the Wins Draft standings.
You don't need a fancy spreadsheet for this one.
The defending champs from Windham are starting the post-Christmas part of their schedule with a trip to Cheverus to face the Stags. The Eagles are 4-0 so far with the 4th highest-scoring offense at 73.5 points a game. However, they have yet to play a team that's currently in the Top 25, with Gorham, Portland, and Edward Little all sitting just outside in the 30s. They're 5th in the Power Rankings, with some of that being because they've only played 4 games. I should maybe adjust it to, not weighted on a per game basis exactly, but nudge it in that direction.
The Stags, led by Leo McNabb, have played a team inside the Top 25, beating #8 South Portland by an impressive 22 points on the 17th. They're 2nd in AA North in scoring, first in scoring defense, and first in differential. They also lead AA in %Perfect, a stat that measures how many of your potential points in the rankings you've earned. Windham is second.
So they've both passed every test this season with flying colors. But this is the biggest yet.
And it's a boys/girls double-header!
The rest of Model's picks for today's games are after the jump.
