Oxford Hills Stuns Windham

The Vikings get a huge Heal Points win

Oxford Hills Stuns Windham

It was a very quiet evening in the (Maine Principals) Association, but that doesn't mean there wasn't a little drama.

The Windham boys have been in the newsletter a lot this season and for good reason. They're the defending AA champs and have been in the top 5 of the Power Rankings all year. Last night, they traveled to Oxford Hills as 18 point favorites.

But this is why we play the games.

Oxford Hills got 12 second half points from Cameron Pulkkinen and won the second half by 7 to shock the Eagles, 70-65. Brady Delamater led the Vikings with 18 points.

The loss doesn't hurt Windham. They'll be the 1 seed. And if you want to look at it in the Joe Mazzulla way of "People are gonna say the target is on our back, but I hope it’s right on our forehead in between our eyes. I hope I can see the red dot", then it's maybe a good thing? With four games left in the season, it's a perfect opportunity to find things to coach up and work on before the games really count.

The win vaults Oxford Hills from 7 up to 4th in the Heal Points, which is a pretty significant move, come tourney time. The difference between playing Cheverus or potentially hosting a quarterfinal is huge.

But what do the Tourney Odds say?

Windham drops all the way from 97.6% to 97.4% to get the 1 seed. That's a wrap.

Before the game, Oxford Hills was 77.8% to be the 6 seed and 10.3% to be the 5 seed.

Now?

This suddenly is interesting.

Tourney Odds are fully updated for boys (missing scores notwithstanding) and for girls not including yesterday's games.

In the Game of the Day, Valley used a big third quarter rally past Carrabec, 54-43. Fisher Tewksbury led the way with 19.

Elsewhere:

Owen Smith's 19 led 5 Dirigo players in double digits and Nathaniel Wainwright just missed a triple-double with 11 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists, and 6 steals as they rolled over Sacopee Valley...Logan Gray had 22 in Brunswick's win over Westbrook...Lake Region came back down 11 to beat Yarmouth on the road...Tyler Abell's 15 led Mount Blue by Nokomis...Damon Martin had 17 in Poland's win over Oak Hill...Reiley Hedden drilled 7 3's for 27 points and Brody Morgan added 5 3's for 25 points as Telstar blew out Rangeley, who got 24 from Brayden Thompson...Mackenzie Robbins had 17 in Madison's win over Mt. Abram...Kaitlyn Frost's 15 led Monmouth over NYA...Oxford Hills got 17 from Ella Pelletier to beat Windham...Madeline Hill dropped 27 on Carrabec...Kylie Young 's 16 led Westbrook over Brunswick...Bella Smith's 18 wasn't enough for Lake Region to beat Yarmouth.

If you're wondering how the Tourney Odds pop-up works, it's a little confusing, but not really. Let's look at Nokomis.

Nokomis is 4-10 and we're unsure how many wins is a lock for them to get in.

You can see their Best-Case Scenario is to win out and that'll get them to 71.0 Heal Points and the 7 seed. They could also lose out and fall all the way to the 10 seed.

On the W-L record section you can see that 34% of the time, Nokomis finishes 6-12 and in those scenarios, they make the tournament 98.82% of the time. So 6 wins should be enough to get in. Actually, 5 wins will probably do it and they could lose out and get in. But a win would really help!

Travis Lee has more from Boston.

The Spruce Mountain boys are the probably 3 seed in B South--they're 86.6% in the Tourney Odds to finish there, so there's a chance Lincoln Academy could get there. But, you have to think they want a shot at revenge against York in semifinals after last year's controversial quarterfinal loss.

Mount Abram is 99.3% to get the 1 seed in C South. That's definitely a wrap.

What this game lacks in playoff implications, it has in scoring. Mount Abram is 14th in the state in scoring and Spruce is 5th, so this should be a lot of fun.

I'm googling the drive to Jay and I don't think it's going to work out.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
