Lincoln Academy at the Almost Buzzer

I got distracted by the Celtics game (how do you not give them the timeout there???) and football and then looked at the clock and realized I hadn't written the newsletter yet, so...yikes.

Anyway.

I started my Saturday at Lincoln Academy to check out the first half of Lincoln Academy and Spruce Mountain and it looks like I maybe left too early, as Zach Keene picked up career win 100.

But there was a doubleheader up the coast that looked promising.

It was a big crowd. The pep band showed up. Hell, the Worldwide Leader showed up.

The boys game was relatively equally matched until Camden asserted themselves with a 12-2 run at the end of the 2nd quarter and first minute of the third. Matthias McPhail was the story in the first half, drilling 5 3's and scoring half of Camden's points in the first half. Teagan Lowe took over in the second half as Camden did nearly all their scoring on the left block. Lowe finished with 20 points and 16 boards.

Oceanside's defense was able to hold Camden's dynamic scorer Nolan Ames at bay, limiting him to 8 points on 4-11 shooting, but Ames did was good players do when the shots aren't there, he made an impact in other ways, totaling 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocked shots.

Camden's defense wasn't as effective against Zeb Foster, who had 21 points and 7 rebounds for the Mariners.

In the girls game, Camden started strong. using a 10-0 run to take an early lead, but Oceanside got hot from deep in the second quarter, hitting 4 triples. Oceanside pushed their lead out to 13 in the third, but Camden battled back, using a 12-2 run to get back in it.

Thea Lakkua tied the game with a 3 at 46. Then Renee Ripley answered with one of her own. Ryley Beaudry added one of her own to get the lead to 6 and then Oceanside went into a modified stall/weave to put the game on ice. Ripley led Oceanside with 21 & 8. Aubrianna Hoose added 20. Lakkua had 20 for Camden.

While at the Camden game, Jon Duke expressed his surprise at the Model's selection of the Lincoln Academy @ Spruce Mountain boys game as the Day of the Game. After all, there were a lot of good games Saturday. Falmouth beat Noble! TA/Cheverus! Biddeford/Mt. Ararat! Medomak/Yarmouth!

Let's go to Jay, where Lincoln Academy has the ball down 1.

That's EJ Hunt with the jumper to give Lincoln Academy the lead.

But, WAIT. There's 0.7 seconds left on the clock.

Oh boy.

I got into the call on the podcast, with some feedback from multiple refs who watched the video.

You can also listen wherever you podcast.

The win puts the 3 seed in play for Lincoln Academy.

Tourney Odds are updated!

Let's update the Wins Draft standings.

True fans might be a bit much, but this is still quite cool. 1,000 people get this newsletter every day, which is a little overwhelming to think about. Thanks to all of you for reading and sharing and tapping me on the shoulder at a game to say something nice.

The flip side of reaching 1K members is I got bumped to a higher tier of pricing, but I can add another membership option.

People really do tell me this on a somewhat regular basis.

The Madison girls have won 5 of their last 6 and are trying to grab one of the byes in C South. The Model thinks they currently have a 50/50 shot at it. They could even get the 1 seed.

Their chances would improve greatly with a win tonight over Hall-Dale. The Bulldogs are in second place in C South and are pretty solid favorites for one of those byes. They've won 8 of their last 9 after a loss to Spruce Mountain and are 6th in the state in scoring differential. But, if you want to quibble, they've played one of the easier schedules in C South.

The rest of the Model's picks for today's games are after the jump.
