Last of the AA Undefeated

Windham falls from the ranks of perfection.

Last of the AA Undefeated

At halftime, the Game of the Day looked like it was living up to the billing. Undefeated Windham led Gorham by 1 and people were in my Twitter notifications telling me that Windham should obviously be #1 overall and that my math was flawed.

And then Gorham responded. The Rams put together a 25-7 run to end Windham's perfect season in convincing fashion. And suddenly my Gorham pick doesn't look so dumb.

Ashton Leclerc led Gorham with 27.

In a cross-class rivalry matchup, the Hall-Dale girls (the 2nd highest-scoring team in the state) had an 11 point lead with 6:52 to go in the 3rd. But then Spruce Mountain proved the old truism that you should never underestimate the heart of a [regional] champion. They closed on a 25-5 run to pick up the win. They're now sitting in 7th in B South, but coming into tonight, projected as the likely 3 seed. I can think of at least one high seed who would rather not see them in the quarterfinals.

Up north, the Presque Isle boys trailed Bucksport 43-24 at the half. But they rallied, coming all the way back. Wyatt Young hit the winning 3 with 48 seconds to complete the comeback. PI had a chance to extend the lead at the line and missed both free throws, but Bucksport couldn't capitalize. Practice your free throws, kids.

Eastern Maine Sports was there.

Ok, so there's 2 sides to this: 1) don't get yourself thrown out of a blowout JV girls game. That's pretty obvious. 2) this was pretty soft. I was maybe 8 feet away, so I had a good view. The fan was providing some, uh, real-time feedback. There was no cursing, but he was standing out, partly because he was in the front row and the ref was right next to him. But he wasn't belligerent and there were a lot of angry fans, some of them related to me. I don't remember exactly what he said initially to get a warning from the ref, but he followed it up with "then do better", which got him tossed. It was kind of funny. It was also a blowout, so maybe he wanted an excuse to leave.

It probably doesn't help that later in the game, the ref tried to award free throws after an offensive foul and it took several minutes to sort it out.

I like to say that the NBA should adopt a replay rule where if a player gets a tech for arguing a call and they're right, they should take away the tech.

Probably everyone could have done better.

This is so cool. Oshae Brissett's grandmother cooked the post-game meal for the Celtics last night.

In running news:

There's definitely going to be some postponements today, so if you know one, put it in the "PPD?" column on the Scoreboard. It's a big help, not just for me, but people who might try to go to the game.

And if I get word that a game is actually happening, I'll put "ON" in there and it'll turn the game green.

I'm going to skip the Game of the Day today because, it very likely isn't happening anyway.

But, just in case...

The Model's predictions for the rest of tonight's games are after the jump.
