Ladies Night
So we had what--we think--is a little bit of history last night.
In Boys' basketball, Ashland beat East Grand 60-33.
That's not the interesting part.
The Ashland boys are coached by Lizz Theriault, who is a woman, and the East Grand boys are coached by Sueanne Lindsey, also a woman.
Gender politics aside, I'm not sure I've ever seen a situation where two men's teams are coached by women. It may or may not be a first (no one's really sure), but it's very, very rare.
Thanks to Ken Holck for the heads up.
Elsewhere...
Massabesic rallied down 13 to force a tie at 30-30, but Marshwood scored the final 4 points to escape with a win on the road...Windham used a 22-8 run to stay unbeaten...Holden Shaw had 19 as Oxford Hills outlasted Mt. Ararat in overtime. Andrew Clemons had 22 in the loss...Jagger Helwig's 16 led Fryeburg to a win over Lake Region...Natalie Beaudoin's 19 paced Lewiston.
Here's a weird story.
Jason Knight, the NYA boys coach, earned his 100th win. You saw that in yesterday's newsletter.
BUT on the same night, NYA's girls' coach Tom Robinson, collected his 150th win. The odds of both coaches doing this on the same night is crzy.
The AA Round-UP
Thomas and Cole are back with another podcast.
They ask the essential question: can Cheverus go 18-0?
They're doing a pretty great job so far. You should subscribe wherever you podcast.
It's sort of a mixed schedule today. We've got some makeups.
If you know of a makeup I've missed, don't hesitate to let me know--some of these schools are allergic to the internet.
Some of these times are an artifact from November (and I have a theory that a couple of schools just put in 7pm for every game, knowing they'd figure it out later), so if a time is wrong, just put it in the PPD column and I'll try and update it.
Also, if you have updated streaming information, let me know. I found out last night that Massabesic switched to Hudl, for example, and there's one-offs like Eastern Maine Sports, who has the Caribou/Foxcroft games.
It's a classic A North battle tonight when Messalonskee hosts Nokomis.
It's looking like a vintage A North year where everyone can beat everyone and the 8 seed just might win the whole thing.
Anyway, Nokomis is currently the 2 seed at 4-2, with quality wins over Camden and Brewer. They'll head to Oakland to take on the Eagles who are the 3 seed at 4-1.
Neither team has played a great schedule and neither has been particularly dominant, considering they're 2 of the top teams in the region. Just another indicator that maybe A North is completely up for grabs, so today's heal points could be very important.
You'll need NFHS for this one.
The rest of today's games are after the jump.
