Jamier Rose Gets to 1K
With a triple-double!
It was a busy night in the (Maine Principal's) Association. We had at least 3 overtime games, several double-digit comebacks, and a couple of game winners, like this one:
In Waterville, Garrett Gendreau called game.
I nearly went to the Camden/Hampden boys game and it looks like I missed a good one. Camden led late, but Aidan Kochendoerfer broke a tie at the buzzer to give Hampden the win and move them to 3-1 in a crowded A North, where Brewer is suddenly in first place all by themselves after missing the playoffs last year.
Camden drops to 1-4, but this is kind of a solid 1-4.
All hope is not lost if you're a Windjammer.
If you're wondering, that's the hardest schedule in the state so far and it's not going to get easier in the next couple of weeks.
In yesterday's newsletter, I mentioned that Noble was on a double 1K point watch. Well they didn't waste much time.
Rose ended the night with 34 points as part of a triple-double (13 rebounds, 10 steals).
That's a very good night for the Mr. Basketball front-runner.
As always, send me videos of your buzzer-beaters, your game winners, your 1K scorers. People love to see them.

It's almost Christmas, which means it's time for a couple of my favorite parts of Christmas.
First, there's Whiskey Basketball Day.
And then there's the holiday tournaments.
Varsity Maine has a Holiday Hoops Showcase at the Expo that has a lot of teams from away, plus a number of countable games.
Up in Augusta, there's the annual Capital City Hoop Classic.
Up near Bangor, there's the Smokey Lawrence Memorial Basketball Tournament, which I can't seem to find a full schedule for.
I'm sure there's more. Send them along [mainebasketballrankings@gmail.com].
I've been watching football my entire life and every so often they talk about the free kick rule and the weird, convoluted scenario by which it might, maybe happen. But it never does.
Until now!
A free kick!
I can't believe I missed this live.
I'm holding on to my 1 game lead over Adam in the Wins Draft standings, which Mike might be tanking for Cooper Flagg.
Considered by many to be the favorites in B North, Caribou has certainly lived up to the task thus far.
They're leading the state in scoring at 85(!) PPG (#2 is Windham at 79.3) and are 3rd in point differential at +144 (Hodgdon is first at +195). If you want to quibble with the early results--which are clearly impressive--it's that the best team they've played so far is #40 Houlton.
They'll get a bigger test today with Ellsworth, who is 3-1 in their first four games without Mr. Basketball Chance Mercier. They've also got a top 10 offense, so the ball should be finding the bottom of the net.
This should be a good one.
The rest of the Model's picks are after the jump.
