Holiday Hoops

Holiday Hoops

Hopefully your Christmas was a nice break with family (and a convincing Celtics win), but it's back to basketball!

The big events are the holiday hoops events.

The Holiday Hoops Showcase at the Expo kicked off yesterday with a full schedule of non-countable games, but today's slate has a countable game and tomorrow's has two (those games have an *).

An adult day pass is $10.

Here's a thing I learned on Twitter last night: these games count for the New York schools. The Twitter account for the New York equivalent of this website reached out looking for scores because those game counted for their standings!

Check out their site.

New York High School Basketball

I've been talking to him on DM and New York's system makes the MPA look like...who's a movie character who accidentally has it together? Mr. Magoo?

If I understand it correctly, different regions (sections?) have different systems for seeding teams? It's...wow.

Anyway, Falmouth beat Construction (a school from the biggest class in NY) 56-51 and SoPo got their first "win" of the season against Transit Tech, who drops to 8-3.

These Maine teams are pretty good!

Up at the Civic Center, a whole bunch of Heal Points will be handed out.

We're going to do a quick rundown, because I spent the 23rd desperately trying to replace the Christmas presents that didn't show up via Amazon (all of them).

Evans Sterling had 32 as Mount Blue beat Lawrence...Jamier Rose had 24 in Noble's win over Bonny Eagle...Leo McNabb's 20 and Gio St. Onge's 16 kept Cheverus undefeated...Speaking of undefeated, Ashton Leclerc had 23 to keep Gorham's sheet clean...GNG got 24 from Nate Hebert and Johnny Patenaude...Biddeford used a 25-5 run to bury Cape Elizabeth who is suddenly 0-4. Could Cape miss the tourney?...Lukas Bouchard had 16 & 12 as York beat Fryeburg...Kory Donlin put up 16 & 10 in Medomak's win over Winslow...Finn Harkins dropped 33 on Sacopee Valley...Maddie Fitzpatrick's 31 paced Cheverus over Deering...Hannah Smith had 18 & 13 for Biddeford...Lake Region's Ava Smith dropped 24 on Leavitt...

Another day, another 1,000 point scorer.

This time it's Oceanside's Bailey Breen at home against Spruce Mountain.

This is her Junior year.

Hopefully I haven't missed anyone, but here's the list so far:

12.23: Bailey Breen (Oceanside)
12.22: Ethan Daigle (Fort Kent)
12.21: Carter Galley (Oceanside)
12.19: Dylan Burpee (Southern Aroostook)
12.17: Hunter Hartsgrove (Katahdin)
12.13: Anna Oliver (Hodgdon)
12.10: Pierce Walston (Orono)

Breen finshed with 20. Aubri Hoose had 23 for the Mariners

York's Emma Joyce drilled 7 3's in a win over Fryeburg.

MDI coach Brent Barker won his 250th game.

Marcus Smart is BACK

It's a weird schedule today where the best games are exhibition games, but if we're talking countable games, we're in Fort Fairfield.

Fort Fairfield is 4-1 on the year and first in C North, with a loss to 2-4 Houlton.

They'll take on a Katahdin team that's 4-0 in D North, but both teams have played possibly the easiest schedules in their region, so it's hard to put a lot of weight into their profiles.

The rest of today's games are after the jump.
