Lincoln Academy beats a short-handed Oceanside
I went to the wrong game last night. But in my defense, I didn't know some important information.
On January 2nd, Oceanside beat Lincoln Academy at the buzzer on a shot by Zeb Foster, but Foster came down with a nasty case of whatever's going around and didn't make the trip south.
Oceanside without Foster as the tip of the sword was bound to be a different animal and Oceanside struggled to find offense while Lincoln Academy struggled to make shots early. It was 3 full minutes of game play before anyone scored and tied at 9 before Drew Hunt hit a three at the end of the first to give Lincoln the Lead after 1, 12-9. Hunt kept it going in the second quarter, hitting 3 more from deep and handing out 3 assists to off-set Connor Kingsbury's hot quarter. Hunt's third three of the quarter pushed Lincoln's lead to 9 at the half. Hunt was 5/9 from 3 in the first half while the rest of the team shot 1/13.
In the third quarter, LA's Chase Coffin found his shot, hitting a couple of threes, then Terry Welle took over down the stretch and we got into JV minutes, featuring the first varsity minutes of freshman. Case Galley, younger brother of the Galley twins, who to the surprise of no one, can shoot. He scored 7 points in 7 minutes.
But the story of the game was Drew Hunt. He finished with 20 points (shooting 6/13 from 3), 4 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals. Terry Welle added 16 & 8. Oceanside was led by 14 points from Connon Kingsbury.
After the game, I spoke to Drew Hunt, who gave a really good interview.
So let's see what that does for B South's Tourney Odds.
I think we can call the top 3 seeds a wrap, with the caveat that maybe Lincoln Academy could get to 3? Maybe? It doesn't get interesting until 5/6, which is a toss-up between Yarmouth and Oceanside with Leavitt and Lake Region holding out hope of getting out of they play-in.

John Bapst standout Claire Gaetani joined the 1,000 point club last night in a win over Ellsworth.

It seems to me that this is worse than scoring 115, but I don't know. I'm not the Facebook police.
Seems kind of painful to watch.
But neither is bad. It's just basketball.
There's buzzer-beaters and then there's a buzzer-beater to win your first game of the year.

Well this is interesting.
If you had told 12 year old me that Lee Goldberg and one of the weather guys would be hosting a show for channel 6 about prop betting, I'm not sure I would have believed you. But this is the future we live in now.
It's hard to find a direct link to this, but you can find it here. Somehow this doesn't have a DraftKings ad on it. You're leaving money on the table, Isaac!
If you're getting into sports betting and you don't know what you're doing, I can't stress enough that you should only bet dollar amounts that don't matter to you. I bet $1 at a time and that's enough for me to feel invested, but obviously so low that it doesn't bother me if I lose.
It's also worth noting that the landscape is fraught with risk. Michael Lewis (the guy who wrote Moneyball) has focused this season of his podcast on sports betting and some of the stuff he gets into is terrifying.
It's a really good podcast!
Thanks in large part to their win over Bangor Christian, Schenck has locked up the 1 seed in D North. They're 100% in the Tourney Odds.
As for Machias, they've got a good handle on a bye in C North and the inside track on the 3 seed.
A win today would go a long way toward getting them to the 2 seed.
The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
