Fall Sports!
The start of another school year is right around the corner and if you're reading this, you probably already know that practices for the fall sports season have already started. Maybe you've already been running early morning laps or maybe you just dropped the kids off at practice on your way to work, but either way, we'll be playing countable games before you know it.
Just like last year, I'll be tracking Heal Points for soccer and field hockey in the manner in which you've grown to...prefer. I also do it for football, in case you want to see how it differs from Crabtree.
I'll also have rankings for football, soccer, and field hockey and the newsletter will have predictions for the football games each week. So, if you're one of the people who pauses their subscription in the summer, here's your reminder to start it back up.
Soccer in the County has already started, of course (no, the MPA's Heal Points aren't working yet), but I can't really start the rankings because the schedules haven't all been loaded yet (I believe the deadline is the 30th) and if I have to pull the schedules multiple times it becomes a hot mess almost instantly. So stay tuned!
I took a little bit of a hiatus from the podcast this summer to focus on wrangling the edit for my feature film into better shape. It currently looks like this, if you're curious.
Currently I'm fine-tuning the cut and then it's sound mixing and color correcting and all those fun finishing steps.
Anyway, I'm lining up some episodes previewing the fall season, but first, I spoke to Steve Carey of CMCC and Southern Maine Sting about recruiting players for college basketball, the role of parents in that (good and bad!), how that relates to AAU, and a bunch of other stuff.
Check it out on YouTube.
Or Spotify, Apple, or wherever you podcast.
If you enjoy these, make sure you leave a review. It helps other people find the show, as algorithms love that sort of stuff.
If you missed it during the Olympics, Greg Levinsky did a "what if?" for the BDN of what if Maine hosted the Summer Olympics?
Can you imagine the traffic?
WHOU has their early broadcast schedule out.
And a pretty good football schedule:
Also, if you find yourself stuck with NFHS Network broadcasts (I'm so sorry), it turns out they have an affiliate program where NFHS will get less money. It's a thing you apply for. I have no idea how hard it is to get approved, but they approved me, so this NFHS link will do the trick.
But you might be able to get your booster group approved and then some of that money could stay in your community. Just saying.
One person who had a pretty big summer was Ryan Martin.
Finally, if you're into hockey, Ben Kennedy (my oldest friend in the world) has started a hockey podcast.
