Dirigo's 1K

We add another 1K scorer.

Dirigo's 1K

We're going to make this short because it's a light schedule and I'd like to get some sleep.

Yesterday, I said the Game of the Day probably wouldn't be close--I wouldn't want to lead you on--and it wasn't. The Caribou boys ignored the rule that with rivalry games you can throw out the records. They were 8-1 for a reason. Presque Isle was 5-3 for a reason. The Vikings rolled to a 65-28 win and are currently juuuust ahead of Ellsworth for the top seed in B North.

We've got another member of the 1,000 point club. Let's go to Boothbay.

That's Dirigo's Nathaniel Wainwright calmly draining the technical foul free throw to reach 1,000 points. When was the last time you saw someone score their 1,000th point on a technical free throw?

If you're wondering the tech was for a Boothbay player stepping over a Dirigo player after a scrum.

Thanks to Cody St.Germain for sending over the video.

Wainwright finished with 30 on the night and Dirigo needed nearly all of them in a 58-49 win over Boothbay. Along with the 1,000 points, Wainwright has 2 Gold Balls. Does that resume put him in the Mr. Basketball conversation? I really need to start putting together a list. If you've got a recommendation, put it in the comments.

Elsewhere:

Bapst's Claire Gaetani dropped 26 in a win over Hermon...Cole Bard's 23 points wasn't enough for Winthrop to overcome a balanced Mount Abram attack. Killian Pillsbury led the way with 14 for the unbeaten Roadrunners...Cai Dougher went off for 32 points and Jace Bessey added 26 as Spruce Mountain put up 90 on Oak Hill, turning a 5-point game at the half into a rout. Braden Dubuc led Oak Hill with 24...David Edwards had 15 & 12 in Richmond's win over Telstar...

This is a really bad call and if it led to Ben Hanke breaking his wrist?

Awful. Awful. Awful.

If we're so worried about safety, I can't for the life of me figure out why we don't add a restricted circle.

Next time you hear someone complaining about a school scoring too much, tell them about the 66-67 Strong boys. They averaged 97.2 ppg!

Check out some of those scores. 143-77! Can you imagine reaction on social media?

Cooper Flagg got parodied by the Onion, just another wild thing to happen to the kid from Newport who should be playing Lawrence on Saturday.

Cooper Flagg Out 2 Weeks Due To Family Trip To Hilton Head
DURHAM, NC—Shrugging as he issued a half-hearted apology for his absence, Duke freshman basketball player Cooper Flagg confirmed Tuesday he would be out for two weeks due to a family trip to Hilton Head Island. “I really want to be there for all my Duke teammates, but this is something we’ve had planned for months,” […]

And, yes, there were plenty of people on Facebook who didn't realize the Onion is satire. Still.

Awesome, awesome news from Dickie V.

Can't wait to see him back on the sidelines anointing Cooper as a Diaper Dandy.

Portland's newest soccer club signed their first Mainer, Lewiston's own Khalid Hersi.

Sanford and Thornton Academy are in a battle for the 2 seed in AA South.

Sanford is currently the 2 seed, despite being 4-6. It helps to have a couple of nice wins. TA is 6-2, but their best win is against #24 Scarborough.

This could go either way. I think we'll learn something about each team today.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
