Coaching Milestones

Three coaches reach milestone victories.

Coaching Milestones

The Game of the Day was pretty much a done deal when GNG opened the game with a 17-1. And since they aren't the Detroit Pistons, they didn't give it back, coasting to a 57-39 win over Wells.

The win moves GNG into first place in A South. Wells remains in 2nd in B South.

In Caribou, the Vikings didn't get the message. They rallied down 13 in the fourth quarter to stun Washington Academy, 48-47. Caribou was, ironically, a 13-point favorite in that one.

A Sam Hebert 3 was the game winner for the Vikings.

Down in AA, the Scarborough boys (18-point underdogs!) handed Cheverus their first loss of the season. The win temporarily moved them from 5th to 1st in the Heal Points (until Gorham's win last night).

I expect you'll read more about that in Thomas Curtis' next AA Round-Up.

Elsewhere...

Maddie Fitzpatrick had 14 & 15 in Cheverus' win over Scarborough...Kytana Williamson's 28 helped Medomak overwhelm Morse...Savannah Lorenz had 25 in Mount View's win over Erskine...Caribou's Madelyn Deprey exploded for 37...Dakota Shipley's 14 & 10 led Brunswick over Westbrook...Ella Giguere had 15 points and 16(!) steals in NYA's win over Dirigo...Caden Smith hit 7 3's en route to 24 points as Gorham held off Westbrook...Kory Donlin had 22 & 9 in Medomak's win...Lewiston needed every one of Lonnie Thomas' 20 in a 44-43 win over Deering...Johnny Patenaude had 26 points on 8 3's as GNG rolled...Evans Sterling had 20 & 11 in Mount Blue's win...And Sacopee Valley's Silas Nielsen's triple-double (11 points, 13 rebounds, 10 blocks) wasn't enough to overcome Telstar.

We had a couple of coaching milestones this week.

On Wednesday, Penobscot Valley's Nate Case got his 100th win.

Coach Case earns 100th win as PVHS girls roll past Orono
At Sereyko Gym in Howland on Wednesday, the PVHS Lady Howlers hosted the Orono Red Riots. PVHS started the game on a 20-2 run and never looked back in rolling to a 74-21 win. The victory earned hea…

In Yarmouth, NYA's Jason Knight also got to 100.

And in Bath, Medomak Valley's Nick DePatsy earned his 400th(!) victory with a win over Morse.

According to the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches website, DePatsy is the 31st coach to reach 400 wins. Dick Barstow holds the record with 664.

I tweaked the Scoreboard design.

Was it needed? No. But, you know.

So I added times, which is nice if you want to go to the game, but is super unreliable, as I'm pulling data from November. So if you know the time is wrong, put it in the PPD column and I'll fix it.

Would you like to see a good, old-fashioned buzzer-beater?

Of course you would.

Things are a lot different this year for the Gardiner girls. Lizzy Gruber is at Saint Joseph's and Coach Mike Gray has retired to the bleachers, but the beat goes on. After an 0-3 start, Britney Gero's squad has rolled off 3 wins in a row to put themselves firmly in the mix in A North. They're currently the 5 seed.

They'll travel to Fairfield to take on the defending champs, a team going through their own transition without Hope Bouchard and company. The Bulldogs haven't lost yet. They're 4-0, but that's come against the weakest schedule in Class A.

Last year, these two teams played a couple of classics, including that memorable Regional Final.

Let's see what this year's rosters can do.

The rest of today's games are after the jump.
