I’ve had some computer trouble today, so sadly I can’t really do a deep dive into the class B Gold Ball games, which is a shame, because the Girls game has potential to be very close.
So let’s look at these pretty quickly.
Wells has won 2 straight B South titles, but the model has been down on them for the entire tournament. They only outscored their opponents by 3.8 points per game during the regular season, a pedestrian number for a 1 seed. They’ve been better in the tournament, winning by 7, 21, and 5. Hermon, on the other hand, has won their tourney games by 27, 25, and 13.
Wells held Finn Bowe to a 3-18 night from the field, but only shot 27% themselves in the first half. If you shoot 27% against Hermon in a half, the JVs will probably get some playing time at the end.
Hermon has had 1 game this year finish in single digits.
Everyone’s favorite busted bracket finishes with the 4 seed playing the 6 seed, just like everyone thought. The thing is, both these teams are under-seeded, so this is more like a pair of three seeds playing for the Gold Ball.
Lake Region turned the ball over 25(!) times in the Regional Final, but when they hung on to the ball, they shot 42% from the floor. They may need to shoot well to stay with a Winslow team that features multiple shooters.
Lake Region is 3-4 against the Top 25. Winslow is 0-2.
Still, don’t be shocked if Winslow pulls this one out. Those 2 losses were against Lawrence and Skowhegan and they were in both of those games.
