Cheverus Rising

In the Game of the Day (that probably shouldn't have been the Game of the Day), Thornton Academy led early but then Cheverus went on a run in the second quarter and never relinquished the lead.

I wrote yesterday that Cheverus was probably the 3 seed, but had a narrow path to the 2 if they could manage to beat both TA and Oxford Hills. Well, they got the first one. They're now 37.7% to get the 2 seed and have opened up a line on the 1 seed. They would need to win out and it's mostly dependent on what Oxford Hills does with their schedule.

Thornton Academy is still 100% to get the 1 seed.

The Erskine and Gardiner boys entered yesterday a combined 1.1% to make the Tournament, but that doesn't mean they'll go gentle into that good night.

Gardiner trailed by 5 after 3 and by 10 with 4 minutes left, but then Colby Moody took over, outscoring Erskine all by himself in the 4th quarter, including this game-winning dagger.

Thanks to Gardiner's Video Production students for the clip.

About once a day, the Model nails a game. Yesterday it had the Cony girls winning by 0.018 points. So naturally they won in overtime.

Elsewhere...

The Falmouth boys won a rock fight to reclaim first place in A South...Braidan Welch scored 29 for Forest Hills...Manny Calder knocked down 5 3's as Monmouth rolled past Boothbay...Avery Bessey's 20 helped keep Spruce Mountain unbeaten...and a lot of games got postponed.

Tourney Week is fast approaching and it can be tricky to remember to eat, but what you don't want to do is what someone did during the Loyola/Duquesne game.

Having said that, the food at the Expo does kind of suck...

This would have been published earlier, but the Game of the Day keeps getting postponed.

Maybe a "no school, no game" policy isn't the best idea?

February 9th is just around the corner.

We're on Game of the Day #3.

Nate Hebert and GNG head down to Yarmouth to take on the Clippers.

If you've been here all year, you'll recognize Hebert's name. The junior dropped a school record 42 points earlier this year and has had a couple of big shooting nights. He keys a GNG offense that's 10th in the state in scoring and has the Patriots in the mix for a top 3 seed in A South.

Yarmouth has had and up and down year. They're 7-4 and while the MPA's site has them in 5th place, they're actually in 6th. That's a crucial spot in B South, as 6 will go directly to the Expo. The Clippers are in pretty good shape. Entering last night's action, they had a 77% chance to finish in the top 6. This is the biggest opportunity left on their schedule.

The rest of today's schedule is after the jump.
