Caribou Rolls (as expected)

Yesterday, I said the Game of the Day between Caribou and Fort Kent probably wouldn't be a great game, and it wasn't.

Tristan Robbins had 34 points to out-duel Aden Jeffers' 31 points and the Caribou boys won handily at home, 87-64, to move to 11-1 and maintain their lead in B North.

Caribou also has a pretty good case for the 1 seed in the Tourney Odds

It's fascinating to me that only 2 teams in B North are IN. For comparison, 6 B South teams are IN.

They can't all be bangers.

Elsewhere:

Gracie Little had 19 as Hodgdon beat Easton...Chase Flewelling had 22 as Easton won the boys' game...Cayden Ala had 15 in Fort Fairfield's win over Southern Aroostook...Isaiah Ervin dropped 34 in Houlton's win over PI...Pete Vicneire had 15 to lead Carrabec by Buckfield...Silas Nielsen's 20 & 10 was more than enough for Sacopee Valley to beat Richmond...Boothbay got 25 from Tatum French, but it wasn't enough to beat Monmouth and Kaitlyn Frost's 21...Dirigo's Abby Luczynski scored 26, but lost out to Mountain Valley's balanced attack with 3 players in double figures...the Mount Abram girls beat Hall-Dale as 12-point underdogs...Darby Flanagan's 22 for Richmond nearly out-scored Sacopee Valley all by herself.

In Tuesday's Windham/Falmouth game, there was a play that was made controversial by people who weren't there. As luck would have it, Joe Bailey got a great angle on it.

A lucky bounce, for sure. But nothing to get upset about.

I wanted to clarify the reclassification update from yesterday, as I think I gave the impression that it's further along than it is. This is what happens when you write things at 1am.

They finished the first draft of the proposal and sent it to Classification for feedback on Tuesday, which ended up being minimal. That'll now go to schools, etc, for feedback. After that feedback process, they'll meet again. Maybe they'll change things. Maybe they won't. They probably won't change much, is my guess, as they've already done a lot of drafts and tried a lot of different configurations to get to this point. To give you an idea, I've seen enough drafts to see multiple teams get sent to all 3 tourney sites.

They'll approve that proposal and send it to the Basketball Committee for a vote, then to Classification. And then people will complain about it on Facebook.

It's Officials Appreciation Week and Travis Lazarczyk has a column on the state of officiating in the state. Or at least the numbers.

Numbers are still down, but according to TJ Halladay, the state’s rules interpreter and a basketball official for more than three decades, Maine entered the 2024-25 season with 430 referees statewide — the highest number since the pandemic hit in 2020. We could always use more, sure, but that’s an encouraging sign.
A thanks to the refs during Officials Appreciation Week
Sports columnist Travis Lazarczyk heard a lot at a high school basketball game Tuesday night, and none of it was a thank-you to the refs.

Also, if you're interested in reffing, you should give it a try!

We're usually in C South more often for Game of the Day, but better late than never.

Mount Abram is in control of the Region, sitting in first place in the Heal Points and the Tourney Odds had them as the overwhelming favorites to get the 1 seed going into last night's games.

You'll notice that Hall-Dale could still get the 1 seed. They have a 0.7% chance, which...isn't zero. They'd have to run the table and get a lot of help. Crazier things have happened.

First, they need to lock up one of those byes.

They're mostly there.

C South is usually a lot more interesting. This is disappointing, I'm not going to lie.

This game probably doesn't matter, other than as prep for a potential playoff game. Hall-Dale could easily drop into the 4/5 game and get Mount Abram in a semifinal.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
