I went to the Lincoln Academy/Medomak Valley game.

Medomak and Lincoln Academy has been a one-sided rivalry for the past...while.

Last year, Lincoln Academy announced themselves as a top tier team in Class B with a convincing win in Waldoboro and finished the regular season as the 2 seed and made their first Regional Final in 35 years. This year, the 2 seed isn't happening, but the 3 was still in play in a season that's come as a surprise after the Eagles graduated nearly all their playoff rotation. Could they repeat last year's road victory against one of the stingiest defenses in the state?

They could not.

The Model had Medomak by 20.3 and boy did I hear about it during the JV game. Way too high! The first game was close, actually, and Lincoln is much improved (they are much improved).

The game started slowly. After 3 minutes, it was only 4-4. Then Medomak went on a 25-6 run and the game was pretty much over.

At halftime, Medomak had a 23-11 advantage in rebounding, a 34-16 advantage in FGA, and it's nearly impossible to beat that, especially if you shoot 25% from the floor.

In the end, the JVs played most of the 4th quarter.

Turns out the line of 20.3 was too low. Did I do a victory lap around the gym? Maybe.

The Cheverus boys made a statement with a win over Windham. Tied at the half, the Stags went on a 22-5 run in the second half, fueled by Aaron Goodman's 3 triples. They went on to win 66-51 in a big win that should lock up the 2 seed.

First, there was the photo.

Then came the inevitable outrage. You know the drill. Sportsmanship, etc.

And then came the actual story.

It wasn't just that he scored 102 points because he's a ball hog. It turns out he has a twin brother who racked up a record 35 assists in the game as part of a 0 points, 35 assists, 15 rebounds, and 13 steals triple-double. A triple-double with zero points scored!

So basically one twin fed the other, which is kind of cool.

Mesrobian head coach Mike Gabriel knew the record was attainable after Khatchikian had 38 points in the first quarter, and decided to let him go. Gabriel took Khatchikian out of the game for good at the 2:17-mark in the third quarter after breaking the record with his 102nd point. Khatchikian scored 102 points in 22 minutes of play.

He did it in 22 minutes. TWENTY TWO!!!

(Caveat that the box score has him playing more minutes, but that could be unreliable)

I am a staunch believer that life is short and you should break records when you have an opportunity. I love the idea of brothers working together to each break a record.

I'm not sure what's more impressive: 102 points in 22 minutes or a 0/15/35/13 triple-double without taking a shot.

California high school basketball brothers set 102-point, 35-assist single-game records (video)
Mesrobian High twin brothers Nick and Dylan Khatchikian each broke single-game California records Thursday night. One for scoring and one for assists.

There's video in the Sport Illustrated story and it's exactly what you expect: two teams that shouldn't be playing each other. And who's fault is that? The adults who aren't getting put on blast online.

We talked about Caribou yesterday. With the win over Ellsworth yesterday, they have the inside track on the 1 seed in B North (I haven't re-run the Tourney Odds yet).

MDI is in the middle of the mess that is seeds 4-13 in B North. This is what the Tourney Odds looked like yesterday. Yikes.

MDI beat Presque Isle yesterday, which will help. We'll have a lot more clarity after they play Caribou.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
