A THIRD Fan Gets Ejected

One unruly fan is an anomaly. Some bad luck. An outlier.

A second unruly fan in the same week, well maybe that's a fluke.

Surely there won't be another.

Let's go to Old Town!

At least he left quietly, which is progress?

Caribou won handily, so maybe the fan just didn't want to watch the rest? But you could hear him on the stream for most of the game. You REALLY have to be obnoxious to get ejected as a fan.

I find it hard to believe this is the end of it. I'm kind of dreading what might happen next.

Chris Popper wrote a post for WDEA asking the adults to start acting like adults. It's worth a read.

It’s Time for the Adults to Act Like Grown-ups and Set an Example for Their Children [OPINION]
Fans behavior at games have gotten out of hand! Here’s my suggestions on what should be done to fans who are ejected and to the team and players if a family member is ejected

Chris is proposing three ideas that have varying degrees of punishment.

  1. If a fan gets tossed, they are escorted out of the school. They are not allowed to attend any more games not only for the rest of that sport season, but for the rest of the school year. Get tossed out in Football season, you'll miss basketball and baseball/softball seasons. Get tossed in Basketball...You'll miss the Spring Sport Season. This goes for home and away contests. I know it will be hard to enforce at away games, but it can be enforced.
  2. If it occurs at a basketball game, there is an immediate technical foul called and the opposing team will shoot 2 free throws and have the basketball.
  3. And here's perhaps the most radical suggestion, if it's a parent of a player, that player has to leave the game. The coach will be forced to bench him/her for the rest of the game.

The first one seems fair. If a kid gets ejected, the MPA makes them sit out the next game. It certainly seems like an adult who has no reason to interact with the game itself should be subject to a harsher penalty than a teenager in the heat of competition.

The second one is already a rule. I don't think I've ever seen it called in person, but it's a rule.

As for the third one, I would argue that the kid has already been punished enough by having that person as a parent.

No one has it worse here than Shooter's son.

Jim Baines had a suggestion on Facebook that perhaps an ejected fan wouldn't be allowed to go to a game until they pass some sort of rules test. That's an idea I like a lot.

Obviously, that was going to be the subject of this week's podcast.

Ok, enough of the idiot parents (hopefully), let's talk about the kids.

GNG's Johnny Patenaude went off against Greely on Saturday with 40!

Michael Hoffer was there with a writeup.

Greely boys no match for sizzling Patenaude, Gray-NG
Patriots’ standout goes off for 40 points in a 69-56 victory.

The defending champs, once left for dead at 2-10, have now won 4 straight, might just have punched their ticket to the postseason and now have a 67.3% chance of getting a bye straight to the Expo. They could even get in the 4/5 game!

Let's go to Wells, where Maren Maxon is on the verge of scoring her 1,000th point.

video used by permission

Maxon finished with 18 points, 7 boards, and 5 assists and Megyn Mertens led all scorers with 25 as Wells took care of Fryeburg.

Wells will be the 5 seed in B South.

Over the weekend, I cleaned up the missing scores, so the Heal Points should be fully up-to-date. Check your team and make sure I didn't enter something incorrectly. It's been a weird week.

Cooper Flagg has had a fantastic year, but there's been a subset of people who were saying, "ok, but let's see Flagg do it against Carolina" that echoed people who once said, "ok, but let's see him do it at the Augusta Civic Center against Brewer". Alright, that was me.

Boy did our guy do it against Carolina. And people took notice.

!!!

And...

Dave O’Brien says Duke’s Cooper Flagg is comparable in some ways to, well, Larry Bird - The Boston Globe
O’Brien has called Duke games for the ACC Network and sees remarkable similarities.

And this from old friend James Corrigan.

I don't know who's in charge of the nicknames, but this should be the nickname. DiriGOAT is awesome.

Zach Lowe is BACK!!!

After starting 0-3, Madison righted the ship, winning 6 of 7. Since then, they've been alternating wins and losses and they're essentially in a coin flip with Winthrop for the 6 seed in C South. Their last game was a loss, so if they keep alternating, they're due for a win.

Just don't tell Maranacook.

The Black Bears are in the middle of a B North that's an absolute mess from 4 to 15. 8 different teams could get the 4 seed. 7 different teams still have a "??" next to their name in the Tourney Odds. For context, we know 9 of the 10 tourney teams in B South.

The Model think Maranacook punches their ticket today, but not by much.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
