A busy day for the 1,000 point club

This is coming really, really late, as I had a big script deadline last night and this morning was the first day of little kid basketball, so apologies.

The Windham boys survived a scare from Oxford Hills.

Check out A.J. Moody's game-winning three on Instagram.

You can read more about that and the rest of last night's AA action in today's edition of the AA Round-Up.

GNG survived a furious rally from Freeport.

Spruce Mountain's Jadyn Pingree scored 21 points last night, getting her to 1,000 points AND making her the girls all-time leading scorer at Spruce Mountain with 1010 points.

That's quite the night!

I went to the Lincoln Academy/Leavitt game to catch Gabe Hagar scoring his 1,000th point. He's the 9th Lincoln Academy player to get there.

Here's the immediate aftermath.

There was a nice moment just after the video ended where Leavitt coach Michael Hathaway went over to congratulate Hagar. You love to see stuff like that.

Hagar finished with 22 points and 8 steals in a game that was...not close.

In the rarest of moves, the Valley boys had 2 players reach 1,000 points in the same game.

Both Harry Louis and Fisher Tewksbury are sophomores who have been starting since the 8th grade for the Cavaliers and both scored 18 last night to get to 1,000.

The Press Herald's round-up reports this is believed to be the second time this has happened.

UPDATE: Lincoln Academy's Chris McKenney and Kyle O’Bryan each scored their 1,000th point on the same night in 1989.

This piece from The Athletic on Cooper Flagg is getting roasted online for pointing out that Newport doesn't have a professional sports team, but don't hold that against it too much.

Cooper Flagg and the small New England town that raised basketball’s brightest young star
The NBA hasn’t drafted a Maine native in 40 years. This high schooler from Newport could be the 2025 No. 1 pick.

We've talked a lot about what a gauntlet the top of B North boys is this year and that continues today in the County as Caribou hosts Old Town in a game that I think has already started.

If Caribou wants a bye, I'm pretty sure they need to get this one, but the Tourney Odds are still running.

As for Old Town, they're trying to hang on to the 1 seed.

The Model's picks for the rest of today's games are after the jump.
