In the Game of the Day, the Ellsworth girls used a 21-9 third quarter to turn a 1-point game into a rout, as the Eagles beat Old Town by 19.

Ellsworth entered the game with an 86% chance to get the 1 seed, so it's safe to say that's settled. There's a chance Caribou can catch Old Town for the 2 seed, but it's unlikely.

So. Last night in Rockland.

Right.

I'll start with this: in case you didn't know, I'm a Medomak Valley guy. Grew up in the program. Spent my middle school years cheering for Josh Nash. My brother was the girls varsity coach until recently. So keep that in mind when I say:

Oceanside did nothing wrong here.

This Oceanside team is a relentless offensive machine. They're averaging 94.5 ppg for a reason. Only one team has held them under 75 points (Medomak Valley!) and they've gone over 100 four times. I know what you're thinking: against who? Well, this is actually the hardest schedule Oceanside has played since they were in A North. They hung 110 on Cony.

They're legit.

The problem isn't that Oceanside scored 126 on Belfast. The problem is that Belfast was on their schedule in the first place. I've seen both of these teams and if they played 100 times, Belfast might get within 40. Maybe. The same goes for Belfast vs. Medomak. There's no point in these games.

A ton of factors go into scheduling. From what I've been told, it sounds like the world's worst game of Tetris. So I don't have a solution. I just know this game shouldn't be on the schedule. Nor should the next one on the 30th.

I'm not sure what people want Oceanside to do here. Leave the Galley twins home? They'd still blow them out. Have the JVs run a stall for the entire second half? That's way more insulting. They got the starters to their season averages and let the JVs play a bunch. That's exactly what they should do.

There's a fun situation developing with Oceanside.

Both Carter Galley and Bailey Breen are fast approaching the school record for points scored (Audrey Mackie, 1271). Entering last night, Carter Galley was 79 points from tying the record and Bailey Breen was 89 points away. The odds of two people being that close to the school record are...insane.

Of course, Oceanside is a recent combination of Rockland and Georges Valley.

Travis Magnusson holds the Georges Valley record with 2,159. The Rockland record is less clear. According to Don Shields, Terry Kenniston is assumed to be the Rockland record holder, but no one is sure of the exact total.

Bailey Breen had 37 last night against Belfast. Carter Galley had 35. So that means Bailey needs 52 and Carter needs 44. So Carter might get there first, but Bailey has a full season left, so unless she takes her talents to South Beach, she'll end up with the record.

At their current averages, they likely both pass Mackie on the 23rd against Lincoln Academy. Unless one of them decides to go for it against Morse on Friday.

The real question is whether or not she makes a run at Magnusson's number. What would we call that? The district record?

I'm just speculating here, but I wouldn't be surprised if, after watching the Breen put up 35 in the girls game, they left Galley in long enough to keep pace. That's what I would do.

The Maranacook boys trailed by 2 at the half before they put their foot down. They beat Mountain Valley by 25. Keagan McClure had 19 in the win....Harry Louis had 33 and Fisher Tewksbury added 29 & 10 as Valley doubled up Forest Hills...Waynflete used an 11-0 run to put away Hall-Dale...Nolan Brown had 20 for Wells in a win over Poland, who got a double-double from Spencer Carter (13/10r)...Dylan Capano's 25 & 10 led Sacopee Valley to a win over Pine Tree...Portland's Kevin Rugabirwa dropped 32 against Edward Little...Chris Simonds' 19 led Falmouth over Biddeford...Althea Thornton's 22 led Poland over Oak Hill...Izzy Morelli had 22 for GNG against Lake Region...Aubri Hoose added 24 for the Oceanside girls.

Hill had 33 points as Valley crushed Forest Hills.

Mackenzie Holmes had a huge game last night.

The Game of the Day is supposed to be the MDI boys at Old Town, but we were just there, so I'm calling an audible.

The Maranacook girls are in B North this year after a couple years in B South, but they aren't playing a B North schedule. They have 2 games against B North opponents, 1 against a Class A opponent, 4 in their old B South stomping grounds, 1 in D, and 10 against Class C. Go figure. So far, they're 3-2 against Class C.

They host Winthrop tonight.

The Ramblers are 6-2, but thanks to their, uh, light schedule (121st in the state), they're sitting in 10th in the Heal Points. They're a tricky team to get a read on. They nearly beat NYA, but got annihilated by Hall-Dale. They've only beat 1 team in the Top 100 (OOB). The Tourney Odds have them climbing to 6th, because the schedule is about to shift, starting tonight.
